Here at Sound Factory School of Luthiery our training courses are designed to take your knowledge and abilities to the next level. Whether you’re looking to become a guitar maker, a boutique amp or pedal builder, or just to improve your working knowledge of guitar luthiery we have the course for you. Join us in our fully fitted guitar workshop in Dublin and start your journey.

Guitar Setup
Our guitar setup workshop cover truss rod, action, intonation adjustment, general maintenance and servicing. Saddle and nut slot height adjustment, electronic servicing, and fret assessment are also covered. Bring along your own electric/acoustic guitar or bass to work on. Each student will have their own fully equipped workstation and all tools and equipment are supplied. This is a one day workshop and the course fee is €150.

Guitar Electronics & Wiring
Become an expert with the soldering iron and learn correct technique. Learn the design and function of electronic guitar components, testing, part replacement, upgrades, modifications, and circuit building. Each student will have their own fully equipped workstation. All tools and materials are supplied. During the class students will make a full guitar wiring harness. This is a one day workshop and the course fee is €165 including materials.

Acoustic Guitar Making
This is an in depth course in acoustic guitar building where students can build and bring home their very own handmade guitar. They will learn everything from tone wood selection, bone nut and saddle making, tool techniques, fret fitting, fret levelling, finishing, general woodwork skills and more. Over the course of 12 weeks students will spend one evening a week building an acoustic guitar from start to finish. Course fee is €2200.

Boutique Amp Building
Learn how to make boutique amps and build a hand wired Tweed Fender Amp from the ground up. Learn proper soldering technique, component testing, component selection, modifications, and more. Using premium components, we build an early 1950s Fender Champ. This two day workshop costs €1250 including all parts and materials. Students can bring home their own hand wired boutique amp at the end.

Electric Guitar Building
Build a Strat or Tele from the ground up. This course covers all the skills needed to assemble and fine tune an electric guitar. It covers, finishing, fret-levelling, bone nut making, wiring electronics, assembly, and final setup. This is an 8 week evening course The fee is €1600 and includes all materials and tools required. Students will be able to bring home their own handmade guitar made with top quality parts and electronics.

Guitar Effects Pedal Building
In this one day workshop we build a boutique guitar effects pedal from scratch. We learn how to properly orient and select components, how to safely solder without damaging sensitive parts, and how to modify and improve tone. Students will build their own hand wired clone of a Klon Centaur overdrive pedal which they can bring home at the end. Course Fee €185 including parts and materials.
